Miguel Cabrera Wins Triple Crown
Last night was a big night for the Detroit Tigers and
Miguel Cabrera has he won the triple crown, the first triple in 45 years.
The Detroit Tigers slugger's milestone became official on Wednesday, the final day of the regular season, when Curtis Granderson - the only man who could challenge Cabrera's homer tally - was removed from the New York Yankees' game against the Boston Red Sox.
The Triple Crown is a rare feat of a batter leading his league in batting average, homers and runs batted in (RBIs). Cabrera topped the American League with a .330 batting average, 44 home runs and 139 RBIs, becoming the first Triple Crown winner in the major leagues since Boston's Carl Yastrzemski in 1967.
Yastrzemski also stressed the importance of team success in a statement he issued on Wednesday, after finally handing over the title of 'last man to win the Triple Crown'.
